November Update

Scopia At Leicester Square

Work has concluded on the feature film Scopia, directed by Christopher Butler and produced by Steven Flynn.

My role in the film’s production was as freelance VFX artist. I worked alongside a VFX house in Chicago on cosmetic touch ups, the addition of nudity, logo removal, SFX etc.

You may recognize the lead actress, Joanna, as the face of the recent Cadbury’s promotional campaign. I was surprised to discover that Scopia has almost nothing to do with Cadbury’s. Instead, it is a violent psychological horror film.

The film won Best Cinematography and was nominated for Best Film and Best Director at the British Film Festival. The lead actress Joanna Ignaczewska was nominated also for best Actress, but I am unsure of her fate. I feel the film deserves the accolades it has received. Thanks to Steven and Christopher for bringing me on board.

I also got to attend a screening at Leister Square for the film as part of the BFI Horror event, as this stock image proves. You can find out more about Scopia at it’s website.

The Listener Cast & Crew, More VFX…

I got to attend The Listener movie showing for cast and crew, which the producers did an amazing job of. Director Michael Gilhooly, production company GoodShout.

My role was VFX Supervisor, I was lucky enough to work with talented DOP David Wright.

This is DOP David’s Wright’s new reel, which includes some of my VFX work at around 00:47 (match move comp on wall, sky replacement etc). Alexa footage.

The Cross Screening In “Horse Hospital”

The film The Cross by Director Siobhan Schwartzberg was screened near Russel Square. The film was produced by Emily Munster, the DOP was Ewan Mulligan. The film is a restrained romantic period film about two people forbidden from making a connection who then freeze to death.

The film’s look and pace is kept under tight control, like the characters. I will post information on the film once it is available more widely, for the time being, parts of the film can be seen in Siobhan’s reel at her website.

My VFX role included; weather work, match-moved projection mapping, matte painting. Breakdowns soon.

Here is the poster.

Then, here is an in depth article about the film, written during production. There are excellent photographs and an interview which you can check out on their site.

Thank you to Siobhan and Emily for the opportunity to work on both this, and Venus & Mars.

“Space Film”

I have a new film coming in December. Here are two pictures from it.

Sequence 01_5corridor

I have set myself the goal of making a space film with absolutely no detectable VFX.

The film is like Interstellar but a different story, characters, budget, production design and music. Instead of Anne Hatheaway, I managed to secure my second choice for the lead astronaut – an actor from Hollyoaks who I will name when the film is out. The woman who introduces Top Gear on BBC2 does the count down for the rocket launch.
