The Grand Tour

I am currently (mis) directing a dramatization of the Voyager mission of 1970s/1980s fame. I am working on music & post production & visual effects (ongoing!)

It is an ambitious project for me and I’ve been working on it for quite a while. More to follow.

New Things

Busy few months, including a stint training After Effects and plenty of freelance work. I’ve also been serving my fave director Brad Watson on two exciting projects which I can hopefully speak about soon.

Most significantly for me, production is now underway on my next short film…Stay tuned.

Standing On Enceladus

A short film made as a learning and fun experience. The film stars Alan Wallace & Parry Glasspool among others credited. Budget was £4,500, self funded (never again!). Shot on a Cannon T2I for the “digital” GoPro look, re: first person experience.

Stephen van Vurren, Director of the upcoming IMAX experience “In Saturn’s Rings” commented that the film was a “fun” short, which is great.

Thumbs

The final shot includes an Apollo era lander. The inclusion of a real element is intended to ground the shot and give it real texture. The frost detail was created by shining a torch thru a washing machine, filmed with the same camera and lens as the rest of the footage for consistency.

VFX Work Updates, Films on Amazon, More

Various updates from the past month or two, in aggregate, lots of things have happened.

I offer VFX Supervision services for film and television and recently worked with Director Michael Gilhooly, DOP David Wright and Good Shout on the film “The Listener” starring Dame Harriet Walter and Guy Henry among others. Much more information to come.

The short film GotGot by Director Dionne Edwards which I was VFX Artist on was shortlisted by ShootingPeople for Film Of The Month with 96 votes. One comment commends excellent use of “sfx”. I’m not sure if that means sound or the visual effects work but at least nobody noticed any defiencies in VFX which means I did my job of adding invisible VFX properly! Next time we will win.

On the IndieFlix website who show my own films behind a paywall, my short film Collision, about Jupiter hitting Earth, is now the 18th most viewed “Horror” on @IndieFlix. 93% average viewer rating also. I encourage people to view all of my own film projects on IndieFlix – they have taken all of my Directed content so far.

collisionAlso of note, my Directing debut, Milk Paton: The Motion Picture(s) is now on Amazon in various formats. The films have been out for some time now, this is a delayed bucket list thing really! Click here to see it on Amazon VOD or Amazon DVD.

No pictures for this one, but the feature film Scopia Produced by Steven Flynn and Directed by Christopher Butler premiered in Oxford Circus to cast/crew. Again, my role in the production was VFX. I had a positive reaction to the film…I am certain it’s going to be big and will get picked up when it does the film circuit.

Finally, in July/August last year I announced I was coming on board to Produce a short film called Ghost Puncher: Fistageddon. Predictably, I am also Animation Director and the action/comedy will be my feature film debut (animated and live action). Check out a character sheet below featuring the male and female lead. The film is being written by Amaury Bigeard, Corey Milne and myself.

Bjrz5MECQAAvY33Finally, I was invited (it’s invite only right now) to take part on Envato’s Microlancer website with my logo animation services, a niche in which I have worked for a long time. My Envato profile. See it here. It’s early days but I am hoping to expand upon my animation services and experience in order to raise new funds for own my film projects.

Matters of Size – New Short Film

An experimental short film starring Alan Wallace, Corey Milne, Paul Russell and others in which objects and creatures are not their normal size. I had help with some rotoscoping from Keith Ard and Dan Corrales.

The film uses trick photography as much as possible. As with most projects, there is a lot of room for improvement but I think the final film is amusing enough! Thank you for checking it out.
